Numbers Don't Lie. Our Community Is In a Housing Crisis..png)
Housing is more than a roof over your head. It's the foundation for your health, well-being, and economic stability. Lacking housing impacts your mental and physical health. It prevents you from investing in your long-term well-being and forces you to compromise on risky financial decisions.
Since January of 2024, our 2-1-1 line has received over 1,000 calls from Kankakee and Iroquois County residents seeking housing and shelter support. That's more than 40% of all local referrals made in 2024.
Housing and Shelter have been the #1 need in both counties for the last four years, as shown by 211 data. Kankakee County’s housing requests currently rank 5th highest per-county in the state of Illinois.
Over the past five years, United Way's Stable Housing Fund has awarded over $115,000 to local housing and shelter efforts, but we know that a much greater investment is needed moving forward.
Your gift truly, tangibly changes lives - keeping individuals and families in safe and stable housing right here in our community.
