UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN KICK-OFF

The

United Way
of Kankakee County would like to thank the community for their terrific support of the 2010 Campaign Kick-Off. Special thanks goes to all who attended the Montgomery Gentry concert, the many volunteers, sponsors, partner agencies, concert producer, Hidden Cove Sportsplex, Jason and the Haymakers, Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry of Montgomery Gentry and their band. United Way is pleased to have brought this level of entertainment to the area.

United Way also thanks the community for all of its feedback since the concert. There are some great suggestions for improvements. Over the next few weeks, we will meet with each of the concert’s partners to review the concerns, feedback and suggestions.

We greatly appreciate all of our donors who continually show they are dedicated and generous people. United Way’s annual donation campaign will remain the cornerstone of how we fund 46 programs within our 24 partner agencies. However, those programs and agencies are being strained and we recognize the need to develop creative and innovative ways to increase awareness and reach the 2010 campaign goal of $1,100,000. As long as there are needs in Kankakee County ,

United Way
is committed to meeting the challenge.

- Dr. Seuss's Birthday!

Celebrating Dr. Seuss’s Birthday benefits the community by promoting literacy and providing entertainment. OAK Orthopedic Sports Arena and the Kankakee Valley Park District’s 4th Annual Dr. Seuss Birthday Book Drive will take place at any local Public Skate. With each donation of a new children’s book the weekend of February 26 – March 1, 2010, receive one free admission to Public Skate!

The goal of the Annual Dr. Seuss Birthday Book Drive is to “get as many books into the hands of as many kids as possible and to get kids excited about reading!” Donated books will support one of United Way’s partner agencies, KCC-ALIVE, a program that supports literacy. By and large, the donation of children’s books supports literacy in our schools and the community of Kankakee County.

United Way would like thank Kankakee County residents in advance for their generous giving. United Way would also like to thank OAK Orthopedic Sports Arena and the Kankakee Valley Park District for their accomplishments in the area’s promotion of literacy!
