UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN KICK-OFF

The

United Way
of Kankakee County would like to thank the community for their terrific support of the 2010 Campaign Kick-Off. Special thanks goes to all who attended the Montgomery Gentry concert, the many volunteers, sponsors, partner agencies, concert producer, Hidden Cove Sportsplex, Jason and the Haymakers, Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry of Montgomery Gentry and their band. United Way is pleased to have brought this level of entertainment to the area.

United Way also thanks the community for all of its feedback since the concert. There are some great suggestions for improvements. Over the next few weeks, we will meet with each of the concert’s partners to review the concerns, feedback and suggestions.

We greatly appreciate all of our donors who continually show they are dedicated and generous people. United Way’s annual donation campaign will remain the cornerstone of how we fund 46 programs within our 24 partner agencies. However, those programs and agencies are being strained and we recognize the need to develop creative and innovative ways to increase awareness and reach the 2010 campaign goal of $1,100,000. As long as there are needs in Kankakee County ,

United Way
is committed to meeting the challenge.

- Back To School Fair August 1st: Diabetes Testing for Children

Please join United Way of Kankakee County at the Back To School Fair held by Catholic Charities at ONU’s Chalfant Hall on August 1st between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM for an opportunity to receive a free Diabetes test kit for children (18 or younger) that may have the signs of this horrible affliction.

1 in 4 children today suffer from diabetes and many do not know they even have the illness.  The Chicago Bears, Catholic Charities and United Way of Kankakee County are doing their part to help educate our community on the ways to identify those afflicted with diabetes and how to treat it.  Jay Cutler, new starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears, is just one of the many people stricken with Diabetes; he did not know he had it until he blacked out during an NFL game.  Jay is now helping to lead the way in understanding this disease.

Please stop at our United Way booth during this event and complete the questionnaire and, if needed, receive a FREE Diabetes test kit that will be processed onsite and also sent for more extensive testing at Healthy Life Laboratories in Bannockburn, IL.

For more information, please call the United Way of Kankakee office at 815-932-7476 or email Info@MyUnitedWay.org.
